It will be ‘frights, cameras, action!’ this Halloween in Sutton Coldfield town centre, when family-friendly creepy films are screened at a free ‘pop-up’ cinema.

Shoppers will be able to take a seat and hide behind their popcorn as spooky family favourites such as The Adams Family, Hocus Pocus and Bedknobs and Broomsticks are shown at the outdoor cinema from Friday, October 27th to Monday, October 30th.

Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID (Business Improvement District) has been given the go-ahead to bring in the open-air pop-up cinema, as part of its mission to make the town centre a destination to spend time, eat, drink, shop and relax.

The outdoor cinema will open on The Parade, featuring a large screen, 50 deckchairs and spooky decorations to give visitors a taste of Halloween – Hollywood-style – to the Royal Town.

The cinema will be free to enjoy and will screen a selection of family-friendly Halloween-themed films, all rated U and PG.

Michelle Baker, Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID Manager, said: “Residents in Sutton Coldfield tell us how much they miss their local cinema and whilst it remains closed we are doing our bit to bring some family-friendly entertainment to town where you can grab a seat and enjoy the cinema experience outdoors in the fresh air.

“All of the films are family-friendly and range from much-loved old Disney movies to Pixar classics.  We are very much building on the success of the open air cinema we hosted during the weekend of the Wimbledon finals.”

All of the events arranged by the Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID are made possible by 377 local businesses who pay a levy which funds town centre initiatives. Events have included a memorable Coronation celebration, major Christmas attractions and a popular monthly Farmers Market.

This weekend, on Saturday, October 14th, the BID will be celebrating Emergency Services Day between 12pm and 3pm, with Police stilt walkers, Police vehicles, a fire engine, a Police dog handler and dog and even specialist paramedics teaching the public how to do CPR.

There will also be free face-painting, glitter face art and a children’s craft workshop over the weekend.

Michelle Baker added: “All of these events in the town centre are funded by local businesses and aim to inject new life into Sutton Coldfield, encouraging people to come along, enjoy the free entertainment and support our local traders. We are very grateful that residents have responded so positively to them and have lots more brilliant events and attractions in the pipeline.”
