Sutton Coldfield’s first Farmer’s and Craft Market of 2023 got off to a tree-mendous start, when shoppers turned out to enjoy fantastic produce and goods.

The monthly market returned on Sunday, March 26th, after a three-month winter break, with 30 stalls lining the Parade from 10am-2pm.

And shocked shoppers were left rooted left at the sight of two giant, walking trees who came along to entertain the crowds – thanks to skills of stilt-walking duo Tree-mendous.

The market, which is organised by Sutton Coldfield Business Improvement District (BID), included stalls from local farms selling fresh meat, fresh fish, cheese, eggs and bread as well traders selling local honey, cakes, chocolate and handmade crafts.

BID manager Michelle Baker said:

“It was fantastic to have the Farmer’s Market back after its winter break, and we would like to thank all of the residents who braved the cold to come along and support the town centre.

“There’s nothing like a quality market to bring an area to life, and we’re looking forward to more throughout the year, with great entertainment and memorable events.”

Elsewhere in the town centre on Sunday, the young stars of the award-winning Sutton Coldfield Musical Youth Theatre were singing and dancing their hearts out in the Gracechurch Centre.

The theatre group were performing songs from their production of Legally Blonde, the Musical, which runs at Royal Sutton Coldfield Town hall from May 23-27.

The speciality market is just one of the BID’s ideas to raise the profile of the town – following the launch last year of a vibrant new ‘Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield’ brand – with special events, competitions and improvements designed to make it a destination to spend time, eat, drink, shop and relax.

The Farmers Market will now return on the last Sunday of each month through to November, with lots of other attractions being lined up for 2023 – including special events in the Royal Town to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.
